Moulin Rouge! is a 2001 jukebox musical romantic drama film directed by Baz Luhrmann. Set in the Montmartre Quarter of Paris in the late 19th century, the film follows Christian, an English poet, who falls in love with Satine, the star of the Moulin Rouge and a courtesan. Christian dreams of writing a major play and is hired by the painter Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec to write the libretto for a grandiose show at the Moulin Rouge.
